Relieve pain and restore movement

Repetitive activities can cause pain and dysfunction.  These are commonly known as repetitive strain injuries (RSI’s).  These types of injuries can affect anyone from tennis players to office workers, golfers to carpenters. Frozen shoulder, tendinitis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, and plantar fascitis are some examples of RSI’s.

Do you have an RSI?

Here are some indications that you may have an RSI:

  • chronic muscle spasms especially in the upper back and neck
  • tingling in your arms or hands
  • constant arm, hand or finger pain
  • loss of grip strength
  • constant headaches
  • joint soreness/pain
  • limited range of motion

If you have any of these symptoms or weaknesses in these areas, continuing repetitive movements may create a more serious injury and lead to extended loss of time away from work or play time.  Early treatment is extremely helpful. Even if you are just beginning to notice symptoms like numbness, tingling, pain or muscle weakness in these areas, see your health care provider right away.

How massage therapy helps

Treatment for an RSI often requires plenty of time and rest. Massage Therapy, especially Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy and Acupressure, can be especially helpful.  BodyWorks in Plymouth, Michigan, also offers an Integrative Synergistic Therapy which is a blending of many therapies in one session.  This highly effective treatment session uses whatever therapies are needed and in whatever order and quantity to make the best improvement possible in the least amount of time.

Special bodywork techniques release painful painful trigger points and knots in muscles and tendons, and increase the pliability of fascial layers and damaged tissue. Massage Therapy and bodywork therapies can help release and stretch tight tissues, improve mobility and flexibility and restore easy, pain-free movement.

Stretching and movement are often helpful in restoring optimum functionality so you may be given some self-care suggestions such as specific stretches, movement exercises or icing as part of your treatment plan.  Several sessions may be recommended by your massage therapist to help reverse the problem.

    1. Thanks Bruno for your comment. We agree that there are many alternative bodywork therapies that can help. Cranio Sacral is just one of many and one that I happened to have had a profound experience in this instance. That is why we offer over 20 different modalities. If one is not right or is not effective, another might be. Thank you for pointing out the option for home care as well.
