Stay healthy this winter

Eat seasonal foods, tune in and get massage

In the winter, we are exposed to low light levels, dry indoor air, chilly outside air and viruses such as colds and flu. As a result, this season is an important time to focus on boosting your health.

Eat brightly-colored foods

To begin with, make sure your food packs a nutritious punch. For centuries, humans have harvested and stored brightly colored foods to eat through the cooler months. These foods, such as pumpkins, berries, and beets, are rich in health-enhancing vitamins and antioxidants.

Listen to your body

We have different needs in the winter. Some people need to sleep more, some need more time with their families, some crave warm food and clothing. When you feel a need tugging at you, stop for a moment and listen. Winter is a time of cocooning, of slowing down and inner reflection.  Let your body follow nature’s seasonal inclinations and do whatever it is that helps you keep your balance in winter.  It's a perfect time to get in the habit of meditating.

Get massage

Studies have shown that massage boosts the immune system, reduces strain and helps many people sleep better. Increasing relaxation and improving sleep helps your body have more energy to protect itself against whatever it encounters.

Massage also increases the number of specific cells, such as lymphocytes, that actually help defend the body from harmful substances. Massage has even been shown to reduce blood chemicals associated with stress, high blood pressure and painful conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis.
